Olivia Colman says she’s always felt “kind of non-binary,” as the actress talked about her identity in a new interview.

Olivia, 52, known for her roles in The Crown, The Favorite and Heartstopper and who has been married to husband Ed Sinclair for 25 years, said in her honest chat that she had ‘never felt more feminine’.

She explained: ‘My whole life I’ve had arguments with people where I’ve always felt non-binary.

‘I have never felt hugely feminine in my female being. I have always identified myself as a gay man to my husband.

‘And he said ‘yes I understand.’ That’s why I feel at home and comfortable.’

Olivia’s comments come as she plays a mother who takes her non-binary child to visit her gay father abroad in new gay film Jimpa.

But last August, Olivia revealed she had to move the little golden figure to her bookshelf after discovering the cupboard where she kept it was damp.

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, the Godfather star admitted that it was the mechanic who saved the trophy.

He recalled: ‘I don’t have anything to display at home… I find it a bit ostentatious. It was in a closet in our living room, but we noticed the closet was a little damp.

‘We live in a very old house – the front is 1600 – so it’s nice but a little damp. And our dear Darren, a carpenter, handyman and painter, opened the closet and said: “Are you kidding? It’s damp in here, you know?”

‘So she got me to take it out and now I keep it on a bookshelf but behind a book so I know it’s there and I can say ‘Hi’ to it.’
