One in four births in England are now emergency caesareans, BBC analysis shows

Prof Marian Knight, director of the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, which investigates the care of women and babies during pregnancy and birth, says the increase represents “a complete change in the way women give birth” in England, which has not been replicated in other European countries.
