One killed, 14 hurt as bus plunges off road in Canaries

At least one person has died in a serious tourist bus crash on Spain’s Canary Island of La Gomera.

The vehicle rolled down an embankment, according to emergency services on the Atlantic island, which is part of Spain and popular with tourists.

In addition to the dead man, 14 people were injured, 3 of them seriously.

In photos shared by the Canary Islands government on social media, the bus can be seen leaving the road at a sharp bend and stopping in a valley.

The accident was reported to have occurred in the early afternoon near the island’s capital, San Sebastián de La Gomera.

It was stated that the vehicle left the road and rolled downhill.

The cause of the crash was initially unclear.

Multiple emergency services were at the scene, including paramedics, fire brigade and the Guardia Civilian police unit, regional newspaper Canarias7 reported.

The rescue helicopter helps rescue and transport the injured.

La Gomera is among the smallest of the Canary Islands, with steep terrain, dense forest and rocky villages marked by volcanic mountains.

Known for their warm temperatures year-round, the islands are popular holiday destinations for many Europeans.
