One Nation seeks state seat in Hastie’s backyard

Labor has so far been immune to One Nation taking seats, but that could change in Western Australia.
Paul Papalia, a senior state government minister who holds portfolios including Emergency Services and Defense Industry, announced on Monday that he will retire from politics due to a serious illness affecting a close family member.
His resignation triggered a byelection in Secret Harbor, the seat created for the 2025 state election. It replaced the constituency of Warnbro (replacing Peel, the seat in which Palia was first elected in the 2007 by-election).
