Aldi issues urgent recall over Christmas chocolate

A major supermarket is recalling a Christmas chocolate product over concerns it may pose an allergy-related health risk.
Aldi’s Dairyfine salted caramel-filled gongs are being pulled from shelves because they may contain peanuts not listed on the label.
The Food Standards Agency added that 90g packs of the popular product could be a “possible health risk” for anyone with a severe nut allergy.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “As a precaution, our supplier is recalling Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks as they may contain peanuts. Anyone who purchased this product should return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
FSA said, “If you bought the above product and you are allergic to peanuts, do not eat it.”
Customers can instead return the product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
In a statement, Aldi said: “We apologize that this product does not meet our normally high standards and thank you for your cooperation.”
The supermarket has been advised to contact relevant allergy support organizations who will alert their members to the recall.
An alert was issued on Friday and was replaced on Monday with the FDA replacing it with “the word ‘undeclared’ has been removed from the title and the batch code has been removed from the table because it is the barcode of the product (4061463276865).”
Dairyfine crispy chocolates were also removed from shelves last month because they may contain peanuts.
Aldi was also forced to recall two more chocolate products just two days ago.
The Choceur pecan, cranberry and cinnamon holiday crust and the Choceur cookie butter holiday crust were removed from shelves on November 26.
This is due to the “unremoved potential allergen” of wheat in the pecan version and pecans in the cookie butter version.
According to the NHS, common symptoms of a food allergy include dizziness or feeling lightheaded, hives, cough, wheezing or shortness of breath. If a person is having difficulty breathing, 999 should be called immediately.
