One person dies and child in hospital as train hits car in Lancashire | UK | News

While one person died after being hit by a train at a level crossing, a child was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Emergency services, including paramedics, police officers, firefighters and air ambulances, rushed to Station Road in Hoghton this morning following reports that a train and a car had collided at a level crossing.
A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We responded to an incident in the Hoghton area of Lancashire at 8.50am today (25 June) following reports of a train and car collision. A number of clinical teams attended the scene, including our hazardous area response team and two air ambulances.
“Sadly one child suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for further treatment.”
According to the ambulance service, no one on the train needed support from paramedics. LancsLive.
South Ribble Police, who attended alongside British Transport Police (BTP) officers, urged motorists to avoid the area for now.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
A spokesman for BTP said: “We are currently at the scene of a level crossing in Hoghton, Lancashire, following reports that a train has crashed into a car.
“Paramedics and the fire brigade are also at the scene. There were two people in the vehicle and unfortunately one died at the scene and the other was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“No other injuries to passengers on the train have been reported at this time.”
