Opinion: why Americans should reject May Day and keep Labor Day instead

Here in the good old United States, we have a beautiful holiday every September called Labor Day where we celebrate the contributions of the nation’s workers. Like most parts of the world, we do not celebrate May 1, which was, at least until recently, the communist holiday.

Today, hundreds of left-wing organizations and Damoractical Party-affiliated organizations across the country will gather, protest and chant on May 1 in an act of radical Marxist globalization. This should make Americans who are not fans of Mao’s little red book very uneasy.

As always, progressives want to destroy the wholesome aspects of our culture and replace them with cold, ugly, almost Soviet-style international nonsense; although our American ancestors flatly rejected it.

Apparently, both Labor Day and May Day are of American origin; The first is a slightly older tradition, dating from the early 1880s. It was an unofficial day to celebrate the working men and women of the country.

Then came the Haymarket Incident on May 4, 1886, in Chicago, when an unidentified individual threw dynamite into a crowd of police during a labor protest, killing many officers and civilians in an act of political violence that is all too familiar today.

Clearly, the version involving mass political violence was the version favored by Marxists at the time and still is.

The uprising and subsequent arrest of several anarchists set the world on fire, and May Day, or May Day, almost immediately became the communist holy day and eventually a national holiday in much of the Western world.

But by the 1890s, President Grover Cleveland and Congress had a choice to make: Should they enact September Labor Day or May 1 as a public holiday?

We all know how that turned out, because we all know Labor Day as the unofficial end of summer, as well as a non-political day for our nation’s workers to pat themselves on the back and have a barbecue.

What is important are the political consequences of Labor Day and May 1. The latter, emulating the Old World image, treats “workers” as a solid political, generally Marxist bloc, while Labor Day celebrates workers of all political stripes.

We can also see this division in European and South American sports, where one team represents workers and the left, while another rival represents the rich. Here in America, Mets fans in all tax brackets are suffering together.

When we think of globalization (the force that arguably brought President Donald Trump and his populist agenda to power), we tend to think of the white men of the 1990s pushing free trade agreements with their big smiles and shiny wide lapels. But there is also a Marxist version.

Communist New York Mayor Zohran “Mad” Mamdani has already said that he believes Gotham is subject to international law, whatever that international law may be, and frankly leftist globalists think of our nation’s borders as merely a suggestion.

Although some school districts have considered the switch, replacing Labor Day with May 1, albeit unofficially, is as much an attempt to distract Americans from their own history as tearing down statues.

These progressives don’t want you to eat a few cold meals on the American traditional Labor Day and think about working hard and the fruits it brings for your family. They want you angry, waving red flags in the streets and maybe dropping a few bombs as a precaution.

This Marxist globalization is much more dangerous and older than the third way, the neoliberal globalism of good haircuts and bad trade deals. Look how quickly Trump eliminated most of this.

No, Marxist globalism is not just a new way of looking at markets. Taking over every aspect of our lives, not just our work, but also our holidays and ultimately our basic freedoms, is an effort at least as old as Leon Trotsky.

Americans don’t need a smelly May Day. The American worker is not a drone to be placed in a leftist political box, nor is he a chess piece in the game of class warfare. They are our neighbors, friends and family. We are all together.

We must reject May Day here in the United States, as we did long ago. We will continue to celebrate workers, not to turn them into agitators, which is exactly as it should be.

So come September, save me a hot dog, and continue the proud tradition of American workers that continues to make this country the greatest nation on earth.
