Organisation should be strengthened: Tharoor supports Digvijaya’s views

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday, December 28, 2025, supported the views of his party colleague Digvijaya Singh and said that the organization should be strengthened.

At the Congress’s 140th Foundation Day event at the Indira Bhawan headquarters, Mr. Tharoor sat next to Digvijaya Singh and exchanged notes.

Ahead of the CWC meeting on Saturday, Mr. Singh created a stir by praising the organizational strength of the RSS-BJP while sharing an old picture of Narendra Modi and narrating how a grassroots worker became the PM and Prime Minister by sitting at the feet of his leaders.

He also raised the issue of strengthening the Congress organization at the grassroots level in the fight against the ruling BJP and to remove it from power.

A day later, Digvijaya Singh said that he had already said what he was going to say. “I have been with the Congress Party for 50 years and I have fought against these social forces, whether it is in the House, Parliament or the organisation,” he said.

“I have fundamental differences and I am against their ideology. I have fought against such people and will continue to fight,” Mr. Singh said. “Every organization needs to get stronger,” he said when asked to comment on his remarks on Saturday.

“The organization needs to be strengthened, there is no doubt about that,” Mr. Tharoor said when asked to comment on the issue.

When Mr. Singh sat next to him and the two exchanged views on the issue, Mr. Tharoor said, “We continue to talk to each other, we are friends and we talk to each other.”

“It is the 140th foundation day of the Congress. It is a very important event for the party. It is a day in which we look back on our very remarkable history and the contributions the party has made to the nation,” he also told reporters.

“Since its first session in 1885, the party has remained the cornerstone of the country’s democratic journey and political evolution. The occasion was celebrated with ceremony and camaraderie at Indira Bhavan today,” Mr. Tharoor said in his post. he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said: “I feel that the BJP has distorted the intent of Digvijaya’s post. Sangh inspired by the ideology of Godse who spread hatred and killed Mahatma Gandhi, we need not learn anything from them.”

“We are the Indian National Congress and we fought for freedom against injustice and exploitation of the British rule and turned it into a Jan Andolan. We do not need to learn anything from anyone; instead others need to learn from us,” Ms. Shrinate said.

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “We have a lot in the Congress and others need to learn from the Congress instead. We definitely don’t need to learn from the RSS as we are against this ideology.”

Another leader Rajiv Shukla said, “The roots of this party are so deep that they can never be erased.” he said.
