Oscar-wining actress Brenda Fricker dies at 81

Irish actress Brenda Fricker, who won an Oscar for her role in the 1989 film My Left Foot and had popular roles in Home Alone 2 and the TV series Casualty, died at the age of 81.

Fricker won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 1990 for her portrayal of Daniel Day-Lewis’ on-screen mother in My Left Foot.

She played nurse Megan Roach in the BBC series Casualty from 1986, making her last appearance in 2010; and was the Central Park pigeon lady in the 1992 Home Alone sequel.

His manager Phil Belfield said in a statement: “We will never see him again and the world will become smaller with his absence.”

He added: “I was honored to know, love and work with him, and he will always have a place in my heart and the hearts of so many film and TV fans around the world.”
