Over 3,500 police personnel deployed in Vellore, nearby districts for Deepavali

In preparation for the Deepavali festival to prevent any untoward incident, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai District Police have carried out comprehensive security arrangements in important towns like Vellore, Arcot, Arakkonam, Ambur, Tiruvannamalai, Cheyyar and Vandavasi and deployed more than 3,500 police personnel to ensure public safety.
On the orders of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vellore G. Dharmarajan, special security measures have been implemented at public assembly points such as markets, shopping areas and multiplex theaters, especially in important cities, to prevent petty crimes and smooth flow of traffic at busy junctions and arterial roads.
“Intensive checks are being carried out in trains and railway stations to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent illegal transportation of crackers,” said Nikil Kumar Gupta, Inspector, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jolarpet. Hindu.
Personnel from law and order, crime, traffic, armed forces, Tamil Nadu Special Police and Homeland Security are deployed at designated busy points in major towns and major villages in these districts.
At least 85 vehicle checkpoints have been set up in these districts, including border areas, to monitor the movement of vehicles, police said. All district police stations have control rooms to monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera feeds, track the movements of suspects and help locate missing persons.
Additional CCTV cameras have been installed at crowded spots in Vellore, Gudiyatham, Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Arakkonam and Tiruvannamalai town to monitor the movement of vehicles. Drone cameras have also been installed in Tiruvannamalai town due to increased footfalls at the Arunachaleswara temple.
Police teams also use the facial recognition system (FRS) mobile application to identify known criminals with real-time coordination through WhatsApp groups. Four-wheelers and motorcycles are frequently used for patrolling.
Mobile X-ray baggage scanner vehicles are being used to inspect luggage at major railway stations such as Katpadi, Arakkonam, Tiruvannamalai and Jolarpet. While women shoppers are advised to wear scarves to protect themselves from chain thieves, scarves are also distributed in shopping malls. Ambulances along with teams of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Service have been deployed in major cities for emergencies.
