Over 6.5 lakh Affected, 4 more Deaths Take Toll to 66
Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam showed marginal improvement on Saturday; Around 6.55 lakh people across six districts are still affected. Four deaths were reported in a day, taking the death toll in this year’s floods in the state to 66. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 4 people lost their lives in floods in a day, three in Sivasagar and one in Charaideo.
So far, 66 people have died in this year’s floods in the state.
While more than 7.05 lakh people were affected by floods in nine districts on Friday, the situation showed signs of improvement a day later; 6,54,800 people are still affected by floods in Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts.
Sivasagar, where around 2.9 lakh people were flooded, is followed by 1.9 lakh people in Charaideo and over 1.3 lakh people in Jorhat.
ASDMA said the administration operates 274 relief camps and relief distribution centers in six districts and provided care to 18,902 people displaced due to floods.
According to the daily bulletin, 810 villages across Assam were flooded and 34,970.8 hectares of agricultural land were damaged. River embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure were damaged due to the flood.
Dikhou and Dhansiri rivers are flowing above the danger level in Sivasagar and Numaligarh.
