OxygenOS 16: OnePlus’s smartest, smoothest software yet with smarter AI, refined design & more – all you need to know

The update promises smarter AI integration, improved visuals and faster cross-device performance. The upcoming OnePlus 15 will launch with OxygenOS 16 pre-installed and eligible models will start receiving the update via the Open Beta Program from October 17.
According to OnePlus Director of OxygenOS and AI Strategy Arthur Lam, this release embodies the company’s “Intelligently Yours” philosophy (software designed to understand users, not just respond to them).
A smarter experience
At the heart of OxygenOS 16 is OnePlus’ new personal intelligence system, Plus Mind.
Acting as a digital hub, it learns user habits and organizes content into a dedicated Mind Space; It collects screenshots, notes, and reminders in one place. Access via three-finger swipe or Plus Key is seamless, and contextual recognition allows it to extract details like date or address from images to suggest relevant actions like calendar entries or navigation.
Integration with Google Gemini adds another layer of personalization. Gemini may pull data from Mind Space to provide tailored recommendations; for example, taking your saved restaurant notes to create a weekend meal plan or using saved decor images to design a layout. The update also introduces AI Efficiency Suite, which includes tools such as AI Writer for rapid content production, AI Scan for document digitization, and AI Recorder for automatic transcriptions and summaries. On the creative side, AI Portrait Glow, AI Perfect Shot, and AI PlayLab enhance photos and offer fun features like text-to-image or photo-to-video rendering.
Breathable and moving design
Visually, OxygenOS 16 brings a lighter, smoother interface that feels polished without losing its OnePlus identity.
The new “Breathe With You” design language delivers smooth transitions, adaptive blur, and vibrant weather animations that reflect real-world conditions. Subtle improvements to icons and typography give the user interface a cleaner, more cohesive look.
Flux Theme 2.0 makes personalization even more dynamic with customizable lock screens, animated photos and interactive mini widgets. Meanwhile, Parallel Rendering 2.0 and improved Flow Motion animations keep the system running smoothly even during intense multitasking.
Users will also notice stronger device connectivity through the O+ Connect app, which enables seamless, wireless file transfer between phones, tablets and PCs. Apple Watch connectivity support is an unexpected but welcome addition that allows users to sync notifications and calls across platforms.
Performance and privacy
Beyond aesthetics, OxygenOS 16 focuses on providing tangible performance and security improvements. The system’s Parallel Processing 2.0 ensures consistent speed and stability, while the Private Compute Cloud offers hardware-level encryption for sensitive data. Region-specific features like Plus Lock, which helps secure lost or stolen phones, are currently limited to certain markets but are expected to expand.
The update also extends OxygenOS’ capabilities to tablets, offering multi-app split views and improved PC pairing.
Verdict: Evolution, not reinvention
OxygenOS 16 doesn’t refresh the OnePlus experience, it elevates it.
The interface is more intuitive, animations are smoother, and AI features increase usability without feeling intrusive.
It’s a well-thought-out blend of design, intelligence and performance that reflects where OnePlus software will go next: a phone that not only keeps up with you, but learns along the way.
