Ozempic maker Novo Nordisk cuts price of wonder drug in half

Loading

Unlike weight loss drugs, Özempic is covered with insurance plans for diabetes treatment. Patients rarely pay full price. However, Novo said his new offer will expand the availability for those who do not have a coverage area and reach a more affordable version of the drug.

“Although Ozempic is well covered in the United States, let’s not forget that there are some patients who pay for this vital medicine,” Novo’s President Dave Moore said. “If even a single patient feels potentially the need to return to insecure and unapproved knockout alternatives, we believe it is too much.”

The movement follows a long, controversial struggle on the price of Özempic, where deputies on both sides of the corridor use more wages for drug producers than other parts of the world for their drugs in the USA. Last year, Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen, former CEO of Novo, was called before a Congress Committee to witness the price of his company’s drugs.
