Palace tells Starmer not to drag King into political crisis | Politics | News

As the ongoing struggle around the Prime Ministry continues, it is said that the embattled Prime Minister is being pressured by the Palace to ‘keep us out of this’. The King will deliver the speech written by the Prime Minister at the next parliamentary session tomorrow, outlining his government’s priorities.
News website Politico reported that people familiar with the matter had made clear to No 10 officials how important it was that the King was not used for political purposes.
“The Palace’s view is ‘we don’t want any part of this conversation, don’t bring us into it,'” the publication was told.
Sir Keir faces a week-long nightmare with more than eighty MPs demanding he tender his resignation, triggering a leadership election.
They did so after disastrous local elections that saw more than 1,500 local councilors sacked and even led to Labor losing control of Wales for the first time.
The official opening of Parliament will take place on Wednesday, when the King will deliver a speech from the Prime Minister outlining the government’s priorities.
The Daily Express approached the government for comment and it did not immediately respond. Neither No10 nor the Palace responded to Politico’s questions.
A person familiar with the matter told the publication: “It’s such a shame for the King that his government is in such disarray and by the end of the week he’s still having to read something that may or may not be the government’s programme.”
The Palace is understood to have made it clear that the King will retain his duties, but it is up to parliamentarians to deal with the ongoing political crisis and keep the Monarch out of the mix.
