Parents urged to stop using popular baby car seat over safety fears

Parents have been urged not to use the popular baby booster seat, which was removed from shelves on Tuesday.
A recall notice has been issued for Maxi-Cosi Family Fix Slide Pro Base due to child safety concerns.
The Product Safety and Standards Office said the product, which indicates whether the seat is installed correctly, may incorrectly display “green” even when the car seat is not fully attached to the base.
“As a result, the user may believe that the seat is fastened when it is not properly secured. This may cause the seat to move or separate, resulting in injury to the occupant,” the recall notice said.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”
While OPSS stated that the risk level was unknown, it was stated that the recall was valid for products manufactured in China between September 6 and March 24.

Maxi-Cosi said: “Your child’s safety guides every decision we make at Maxi-Cosi.
“During a recent user test as part of our continuous improvement efforts to increase ease of use, we identified a possible misuse scenario involving a visual indicator on our new Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix base.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to the highest possible standards in child safety, product quality and ease of use, we have initiated a voluntary product recall.”
According to the company’s website, the product is made for children from birth to four years old.
Customers are advised to check the safety of their seats by entering the product model reference (Ref) and production date (Date) on the website.
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Protection Policy said: “It is incredibly concerning that Maxi-Cosi has recalled this car seat base due to the risk of the seat moving or separating during use.
“Anyone who owns a Maxi-Cosi car seat can check if their car seat is affected by using the brand’s online tool, and if so, they should stop using it immediately.
“Max-Cosi and its suppliers must urgently investigate how this happened and ensure that the necessary measures are taken to prevent potentially unsafe products from reaching consumers in the future.”
