Part of Manchester Airport closes for hours after police chase ends in serious crash | UK | News

Passengers at Manchester Airport faced chaos in the early hours of the morning after a police pursuit resulted in a crash near Terminal 2 and a driver was taken to hospital. The terminal’s upper forecourt was forced to close for three hours following the crash earlier today (May 5).
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the driver of a vehicle pursued by officers was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision. In an online post at 2.30am this morning, a GMP spokesman said: “Following a police pursuit, a road traffic accident occurred near Manchester Airport Terminal 2.
“The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. Disruption to airport passengers is expected due to the location of the collision.” Manchester Airport confirmed that the upper atrium reopened at 5.30am.
Passengers have been warned there may be disruption to Terminal 2, which is currently Manchester Airport’s main terminal for all non-Ryanair departures. In a post on social media in the early hours of this morning, a spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: “Please note: due to a traffic accident the upper atrium of Terminal 2 is closed until further notice.
“All motorists are being directed to the lower forecourt. As a result, traffic congestion is expected in the area and journeys are likely to take longer than usual. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
An online post from the airport said: “The upper atrium of Terminal 2 has reopened following an earlier traffic accident. We thank people for their patience and apologize for any possible delays.”
