Passenger held with gold worth ₹3.89 crore at Mumbai airport

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence claimed to have busted a gold smuggling racket after seizing yellow metal worth ₹3.89 crore from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, an official said.
Based on specific intelligence, DRI officials apprehended a passenger arriving from Bahrain on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
The official said that during the search of his luggage, 12 capsules weighing 3.05 kg filled with gold dust in wax form were found.
The capsules were hidden inside a glass of water to avoid detection. He said the value of the recovered gold, which was found to be of 24 carat purity, was ₹ 3.89 crore.
The precious metal was seized and the investigation is ongoing, the official added.
