Passenger killed as pvt travels bus rams into lorry

A 50-year-old passenger was killed when a private travel bus crashed into a truck on the national highway near Allagadda on Sunday. While the deceased was identified as Subrahmanyam, the passengers who died at the scene escaped with minor injuries. The body of the deceased was taken to Aladağ State Hospital for autopsy.

According to police, the Jai Bharat Travels bus, carrying around 30 passengers, was heading to Hyderabad from Arunachalam when the accident occurred. It was reported that the accident occurred when the bus driver tried to overtake a truck loaded with coal and collided with it.
Allagadda police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Newly married woman ended her life due to harassment by her mother-in-law

Satyamsetti Venkata Lakshmi, a 25-year-old newlywed woman from Goneda village in Kirlampudi mandal of Kakinada district, died by suicide at her parents’ house on Saturday. According to Kirlampudi police, Venkata Lakshmi married Gadi Koteswara Rao of Marlava village of Peddapuram mandal on April 25. Venkata Lakshmi’s parents alleged that after her marriage, her husband and mother-in-law mentally abused her. They claimed that he took the extreme step because he could not stand the harassment. Kirlampudi sub-inspector G. Satish registered a case and investigation was on.

YSRC will protest fuel price hike across the state today

The opposition YSR Congress called for a statewide protest on Monday against the recent rise in petrol and diesel prices in Andhra Pradesh.

Announcing the protests, YSRC claimed that the coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has imposed an additional burden on the people despite pre-election promises of reducing fuel prices.

Speaking in a teleconference with party leaders on Sunday, YSRC state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said Andhra Pradesh has the highest fuel prices in the country. He pointed out that the increases seriously affect farmers, transportation operators, small traders and middle-class families who are already suffering due to rising living costs.

Sajjala underlined that the increase in fuel prices will trigger an increase in basic food prices and deepen the economic distress in the society.

He said that the party will hold demonstrations in all constituencies as per the directives of YSRC president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Party delegations will present declarations protesting the increase in fuel prices to the regional authorities.

The YSRC state coordinator also reviewed the Election Commission’s proposal to revise the electoral rolls. He directed party cadres to strengthen booth-level operations and social media outreach.

Teenager drowned while taking holy dip in Godavari

A 25-year-old youth drowned in Godavari river while taking holy dip in the bathing ghat at Gandiposamma temple in Devipatnam mandal of Polavaram district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Gopala Satish of Gandepalli mandal in Kakinada district.

According to Devipatnam police, Satish had visited the temple along with his friends. Before taking darshan, when he and a friend entered the bathing ghat to take a holy dip, he reportedly slipped into a deep spot and drowned.

His friends and local people tried to save him but to no avail.

Devipatnam sub-inspector Shariff and police personnel rushed to the spot, retrieved the body and transported it to the district hospital in Rampachodavaram for post-mortem examination. Devipatnam Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

16 tonnes of PDS rice seized from Sathya Sai district

Hindupur Rural police seized 16 tonnes of illegally transported Public Distribution System (PDS) rice near Manesamudram village in Hindupur Mandate on Sunday and arrested one person.
Hindupur Rural non-land department inspector C. Anjaneyulu said the raid was carried out on credible information that government-supplied PDS rice was being illegally transported to Tumakuru in Karnataka.
During vehicle inspections around 10 am, police seized an Eicher vehicle and inspected the consignment in the presence of deputy civil supplies collector Harathi and village revenue officers.
Authorities seized a total of 16,000 kg (16 tonnes) of PDS rice, including 294 bags of 50 kg rice and 52 bags of 25 kg rice.
Police registered a case against Mahesh and Kuruba Ramakrishnappa. Driver Mahesh has been arrested, while Ramakrishnappa remains at large.

Highway disaster: Another worker lost his life

With the death of Mattaparthi Aruna Kumari on Sunday, the death toll in dumper truck accident on Kovvuru National Highway bridge in Kakinada Rural mandal rose to five.

Aruna Kumari, who was seriously injured in the accident, died while being treated at Kakinada Government Hospital.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning when women workers were on their way to participate in NREGS work. It was reported that a truck ran over workers on the bridge and four women died at the scene.

Another injured worker, Palika Nagamani, is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kakinada.

Nellore police booked history under Police Act regarding murder and robbery

SPSR Nellore district police underlined its zero-tolerance approach to violent crimes by invoking the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against a notorious history maker involved in several criminal cases of a serious nature.

District SP Dr. Ajitha Vejendla said that action has been taken against 26-year-old Shaik Rasool of Bujabujanellore under Vedayapalem police station limits to curb repeat criminal activities and strengthen public confidence in law and order.

Police said Rasool, listed at number 356 in the Rowdy Sheet of Vedayapalem police station, had a long criminal record, including one murder case, four attempt to murder cases, three assault cases and two robbery cases. He was last arrested on February 24 this year in an attempt to murder case registered under the name of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Since then, he has been kept in Nellore Central Jail under judicial remand.

On Saturday morning, Rasool was shifted from Nellore Central Jail to Kadapa Central Jail under tight police security.

The SP warned that strict sanctions, including the PD Act, will continue to be imposed against persons involved in murders, robberies, violent attacks and crimes that create fear among the public. He claimed that the police would not compromise on ensuring peace and public security in the district.
