Paul Pelosi faces hit-and-run charge after he allegedly crashed into parked vehicle | Nancy Pelosi

Paul Pelosi, husband of U.S. congresswoman and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, faces a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge for allegedly crashing into a parked car and leaving the scene in early July, the Napa district attorney said. announced on Friday.
Authorities said there were no passengers in the car that crashed, but the vehicle suffered “major” damage. A spokesperson for the Pelosi family said in a statement to various media outlets that Paul Pelosi apologized to the owner of the vehicle and took responsibility for the damage.
Pelosi, 86, was also charged with unlawful return in connection with the July 3 incident in Yountville, California. His hearing will be held on August 14. Pelosi’s representative could not immediately be reached for comment.
Pelosi has run afoul of the law while driving in the past, public records show. There are traffic violations in California dating back to at least 2011; These include citations for failure to stop at a red light, stop sign violations and driving to the left of double yellow lines.
In 2022, Pelosi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of drunken driving after a crash in Napa County. California highway patrol officers observed Pelosi’s speech to be slurred and smelled of “a strong odor of alcoholic beverages,” the Associated Press reported. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years probation.
The Napa County district attorney’s office said Pelosi was not charged with driving under the influence because no evidence was presented to show she was impaired. “The district attorney’s office has an ethical obligation to file charges only that can be proven based on available evidence beyond a reasonable doubt,” the statement said.
The prosecutor’s office said body camera footage of the alleged hit-and-run will not be made public until the case is concluded to protect Pelosi’s right to a fair trial.
