School bus carrying 40 children crashes in Northern Ireland

A bus carrying school children collided in Belleeks, Co Armagh, Northern Ireland, on Tuesday.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said a “significant incident” had occurred after receiving reports of the crash at 3.38pm.
It was confirmed that five ambulances, two advanced paramedics, a police officer and an ambulance doctor were at the scene treating patients.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said Independent Injuries to the children involved are thought to be minor.
Northern Ireland road and police safety said: “Road users are being advised of a collision in the Tullyah Road area of Belleeks between Newtownhamilton and Camlough.
“Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes. An update will be issued in due course.”
Speaking to police, Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty said all the children “walked away relatively unharmed”, according to Belfast Live.
He said: “A school bus carrying children from St Paul’s High School to Whitecross crashed on Tullyagh Road. Fortunately, around 40 people walked away from the scene and returned home. A few suffered minor injuries but were not seriously injured,” the news site reported.
“With a school bus accident, you hope the worst doesn’t happen. Fortunately, the children all escaped relatively unharmed.”
