Paul Pelosi involved in hit and run in California and could face charges, authorities say

The husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi caused “major damage” to a car in a hit-and-run crash in California’s wine country on Friday, local officials said, and Pelosi, 86, could face misdemeanor charges.
Paul Pelosi was driving his brown convertible in Yountville, a small town in Napa County, when he struck a car legally parked on the side of the road, stopped briefly and then drove away, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday. No injuries were reported.
A witness saw the crash and called 911. A short time later, sheriff’s deputies found Pelosi on a nearby road about a quarter-mile away with significant damage to the front end of her car. The octogenarian man told officers he knew he hit something but didn’t know when or what damaged his car.
According to the statement, Pelosi did not have alcohol in her system at the time of the accident. The sheriff’s office referred Pelosi to the California Department of Motor Vehicles to begin a process that will determine whether she can continue driving. Officials say this process is “common” for older drivers.
Since no arrests were made and no one was physically injured, the sheriff’s office is recommending a misdemeanor charging Pelosi with fleeing the scene of the accident.
A staffer for Rep. Pelosi did not respond to an emailed request for comment Saturday afternoon.
