Brits have been stranded on a boiling Eurostar train as a scorching heatwave causes travel problems. The disaster, which lasted six hours, occurred when the Eurostar flight from Paris became stranded in northern France. The train left Paris at 15.55 on Wednesday but stopped in Lille at around 17.51.

A technical malfunction occurred on the train due to extreme temperatures. The passengers were heading back to London but were stranded for hours.

GB News reported that Eurostar said the rising temperature had led to a mechanical failure. Heatwave affected UK and Europe; scorching temperatures were recorded, some even breaking records.

It was reported that the train was extremely hot because the air conditioning malfunctioned and the operators did not take the passengers to the platform.

Passengers were trapped on the ship while engineers tried to fix the malfunction, which took about five hours.

Eurostar staff distributed bottled water and later Kit Kats; staff told them they were out of food supplies.

A British passenger told Sun: “They tried to fix it for a few hours. Then they said they would send us a new train. They didn’t let us stretch our legs.”

Eurostar arranged a replacement service, but the rescue operation ended in another failure when signaling equipment south of Lille also succumbed to extreme heat.

The passengers finally continued their journey at 22.52. The train eventually arrived in London St Pancras almost six hours late.

The rail operator issued an apology, saying: “Eurostar teams were fully mobilized on site, assisting and supporting passengers throughout their journey.

“Affected customers will receive a full refund of their tickets and will be offered a voucher for 150 percent of the ticket price.

“Eurostar apologizes to its customers and thanks them for their patience in these exceptional circumstances.”
