“Maybe it’s because my parents were married three times and divorced twice, and his parents were married twice and divorced three times… We had a track record of, ‘Well, I don’t know about that.'”
McConaughey said the two were successful as a couple and were not interested in getting married just because others insisted they do so.
“So, we’re moving forward…it’s going great and we don’t want to get married because that’s just what you’re supposed to do,” he said. “I don’t want to come back to this just because someone said, ‘Legally, this is…’ No, that’s ridiculous, that’s what I want to do. I wasn’t against it, but we were thinking: ‘We’re doing well.'”
That all changed one night when McConaughey came home with a scene he didn’t realize he was preparing for a life-changing stunt: a cheeseburger on the grill, his favorite tequila, and a gift.
