Pay rise kicks in, further Iran negations planned

Millions of workers will receive a pay rise from today for the first full pay period after the Fair Work Commission approved a 4.75 per cent increase in wages. Minimum wage workers will receive a 6 percent raise.

The increase brings the minimum annual wage, based on a 38-hour work week, above $50,000 a year for the first time. That figure will rise to $1004.90 per week or $26.44 per hour, up from $948 per week and $24.95 per hour last year.

Australian Council of Trade Unions Secretary Sally McManus has urged workers to compare their final June payslip with their first full payslip from July 1 to confirm the new rate has been applied correctly by their employers.

“July is pay rise month for millions of Australian workers. This doesn’t just apply to pay rises, many collective agreements also include pay increases starting on July 1,” he said.

“It is important for everyone affected to check their payslips this month to ensure their employer is paying the wage unions are fighting for so they experience the cost of living relief that comes from the extra pay.”

McManus said workers concerned they may not have received the pay rise should keep records of their payslips, contact their union or call Unions Australia on 1300 486 466.
