Penalty rates bill aims to protect millions of workers

An ordinary hospitality worker may expect to protect the penalty rates of approximately $ 40 per hour under an offer to prevent the shaving of employees.

Measures of Penalties and Excess Working Rates will be brought by Employment Minister Amanda Rishworth at the House of Representatives on Thursday.

The bill aims to prevent changes in awards that will result in a lower wage for workers.

Following the May 3 Federal elections, it will be among the first pieces of legislation introduced by the Labor Party during the second power period.

Workers may have higher wage rates on weekends, public holidays or irregular hours, if they need to work on certain hours or days.

While rates may vary depending on the special award or agreement of an employee for this sector, common payment rates for workers on a Sunday twice (200 percent) or 150 percent (150 percent).

Calculating the prices on the Fair Labor Commission’s website, for an ordinary hospitality worker, the common penalties for a shift on Saturday will be $ 40.85 per hour and can bring $ 47.65 per day on Sunday.

The protection of penalty rates was the Albanian government pledge.

Rishworth said that the bill will protect the wages of the workers’ wages connected to the approximately 2.6 million modern awards.

“The modern award security network and weekends, public holidays, early hours of the morning or late at night, you deserve to protect your wages,” he said.

“Millions of hardworking Australian rely on the penalty rates and overtime rates to keep their heads on the water, so this bill should get the support of both the opposition and the greenery.”

Labour’s planned changes arrived after sales the most intense retail, and business groups made suggestions to choose to provide penalties for personnel in exchange for an increase in wage levels.

Opposition employment spokesman Tim Wilson, the coalition supports the penalty rates, he said.

“We will work on the legislation to ensure that it will affect the best results and to achieve the best result.” He said.

Wilson said that the absence of a regulatory impact declaration that reveals the potential effects of the proposed changes means that the consultation is more important to ensure that the economy is part of the future success.

The coalition also wants to evaluate how changes will interact with the Fair Business Commission, which will be necessary to implement new rules in addition to the modern award target to make its determination.
