The Pentagon invited more than 3,500 employees to a Good Friday ceremony in its on-site chapel. But this is only for Protestants, not Catholics.
“Friendly reminder: A Protestant Mass (there will be no Catholic Mass) will be held today at the Pentagon Chapel for Good Friday,” said an email sent Friday by Air Force leadership, a copy of which was shared by an employee.
“I think it’s so Catholics know their kind is not welcome,” said this employee, who asked to remain anonymous to discuss internal communications. “This is ridiculous.”
A Pentagon spokesman confirmed that it does not host a separate religious service for Catholic employees.
“The Protestant service is the only service scheduled to be held in the Pentagon chapel today,” they said in a statement.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a far-right evangelical Christian, has sought to inject his religious views into Pentagon activities.
Last May he brought the Tennessee pastor and controversial spiritual advisor Brooks Potteiger to the Pentagon leading a prayer ceremonyMeanwhile, he hailed President Donald Trump as a divinely appointed leader. Hegseth said at the time that he wanted to make the prayer service a monthly tradition.
