The shooting happened outside a townhouse in Atlanta just before 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 11.

“Our investigation determined that we believe a property crime occurred – some packages were removed from the front porch, a rare occurrence this time of year – and the homeowner discharged his weapon to stop it,” Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at the time.

The police who intervened in the incident found a 15-year-old young man with a gunshot wound to his right foot. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A short time later, police found the other young man shot in his right arm. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Early Friday morning, police said the teenager underwent surgery. Both teenagers are expected to survive.

The teens were suspected of stealing packages left on a home’s porch, commonly known as “porch piracy.”
