Perth man accused of rape after failing to pay a sex worker
A Perth bricklayer has been extradited to Queensland over allegations he used the services of a sex worker but failed to pay her.
Jumakhan Haidari, 26, allegedly had sex with the woman while on holiday in Brisbane in December 2024 but later made fraudulent payments for her services.
Sex work was fully legalized in Queensland in August 2022 and non-payment is classed as non-consensual.
On Wednesday, Queensland Police officers applied to the Perth Magistrates Court to extradite Haidari to Brisbane on charges of forgery relating to the fraudulent payment, as well as three counts of sexual intercourse without consent.
Haidari, through his lawyer, told the judge he had no idea about the allegations and would make his own way to Brisbane for a hearing on the matter.
“The court can trust that he will take the matter seriously and appeal to the court in Queensland,” his lawyer said.
Prosecutors claimed a strong case was made against Haidari after the alleged complainant signed a statement.
The extradition detention took 18 months, although Hairdari had come to the attention of WA Police and the courts during this time for minor, unrelated matters.
The judge told the prosecutor he was effectively “hiding in plain sight.”
“Your Honor will know how long it will take for the extradition order to be processed,” the prosecutor said.
“This is a very long process. It has to be approved by the Director of Public Prosecutions and can take up to two years.”
Haidari’s lawyer said he was completely unaware of the allegations until his arrest earlier this week.
His bail application was ultimately refused as he was deemed a flight risk and he was escorted out of court by police officers.
He is due to appear in court in Brisbane on May 22.
