Screams heard before man dies in ‘suspicious’ balcony fall from Castle Hill unit

Neighbors recalled hearing screams from a man police described as “suspicious” before he fell from a balcony in Sydney’s northwest.

Emergency services were called to Crane Road, Castle Hill, at around 2.40am on Sunday after a man was heard shouting from the fourth-floor balcony of an apartment complex.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found a 44-year-old man seriously injured in the garden outside the unit.

They immediately began life-saving treatment, but the man died at the scene.

Although police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, they are treating the incident as suspicious.

A police source told the Daily Telegraph that the 44-year-old man was accompanied by people before his death.

“People heard screams, so until we can fully investigate the circumstances, this is considered a suspicious death,” the source said.

One neighbor said they were awakened “in the middle of the night” by a man screaming.

“Someone was screaming ‘help, help’ for about 20 to 30 minutes,” they said.

“This happened a few times…they scream like they’re in pain. Most people in the building heard it a few times.”

Another neighbor, Mel San Juan, said they heard the person shouting, “Help, I can’t breathe.”

“The police had been called to the street before,” he said.

“Every once in a while there’s someone who goes off, but crime scenes are pretty rare.”

An investigation was launched into the man’s death under the direction of Strike Force Sunbach.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
