Phillipson and Powell reach second stage of deputy leadership race

As the leader of the Labor Party, Angela Rayner has become a head -to -head between Educational Secretary Bridget Phillipson and former Commons leader Lucy Powell.
The first stage of the competition ended on Thursday evening, Mrs. Phillipson and Mrs Powell, the only two candidates to reach 80 nominations from workers’ deputies.
Ms. Phillipson was the first to reach the first candidates to sit in the lead with 116 nominations on Wednesday night.

After a virtual hustle and bustle on Wednesday evening, he continued to nominate and nominated 175.
Meanwhile, Ms. Powell, who was dismissed in the reorganization of the government of the last week, received only shy 77 from the 80 required 80 on Wednesday. Now he crossed the threshold and nominated 117.
The strong performance of the old-commons leader poured cold water into the first speculation that MS Phillipson could be the only candidate to enter the final stage of the race.
The possibility of a controversial election threatens to overshadow Labor’s annual conference in Liverpool at the end of September, and some see it as a referendum under the leadership of the prime minister as an increasing concern about the concern and approval ratings on the direction of the government.
However, neither a cabin minister, Ms. Phillipson, nor Mrs Powell clearly criticized Sir Keir Starmer so far, while other candidates clearly called for a change of direction.
Although he was dismissed by Sir Keir last week, Mrs Powell said that he was “proud of serving in the government when he announced his candidacy.
Dame Emily Thornberry, President of the Committee of Foreign Affairs in the early hours on Thursday, left the race and said, çocuk It was a privilege to participate in this race with such bright women ”. He had only nominated 13 nominations until Wednesday night.
Paula Barker left the race and supported Lucy Powell.
“The next deputy leader should listen to the concerns of every part of our party and should not be afraid to bring these difficulties to the government.
“Being a good team does not mean that we cannot be honest, it strengthens us when the government criticism is constructive.”
The day before, the sixth candidate Alison McGOVERN left the race and supported Mrs. Phillipson, saying that this competition has changed its momentum ”.
To the left of the party, Bell Ribeiro-Ady was third in 15 candidates on Wednesday, but only on Thursday to 24 before 17:00.
The successful candidate will not be as Deputy Prime Minister who is a position given to David Lammy as a deputy worker leader instead of Mrs. Rayner.
The competition was triggered after Rayner resigned last weekend, an independent investigation did not meet the ethical standards for the ministers of the state in the last home recruitment.
Ashton-Under-Lyne deputy, who admitted that he did not pay enough taxes to buy an apartment on Hove at the beginning of this summer last week, found that the report was acting in good faith, but he had to get more specific tax advice.
The result of the competition will be announced on October 25th.
