George Baldock’s huge fortune for his baby son is revealed after footballer drowned in swimming pool aged 31

It has been revealed that tragic footballer George Baldock left a large fortune worth £4 million to his young son, who drowned in the swimming pool at the age of 31.

The former Premier League defender was discovered at his home in Athens in October 2024 after his worried partner was unable to reach him for several hours.

There was no alcohol or drugs in his system, the inquest into his death was concluded and the coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.

The hearing was told that Baldock was due to fly to England to celebrate his son Brody’s first birthday the day after his tragic accident.

Probate documents have revealed that the former Sheffield United star left a staggering total of £5,781,399.

After his debts were settled the net worth of his estate fell to £4,091,003.

Baldock died without making a will, which means he did not write a will and the money would automatically be given to his next of kin.

Court documents seen by The Sun say his fortune will be managed by his fiancée Annabel Dignam ‘for the use and benefit of the minor Brody Baldock’ until he turns 18.

Following his death, the star’s grieving family stated that they were in complete ‘shock’ due to the tragedy.

Although he was born in Buckinghamshire, he played 12 times for Greece after qualifying to represent the country through his grandmother.

‘We can confirm that George has sadly passed away. As a family, we are in shock at this terrible loss. We ask that the media please respect our privacy at this time,” his family said in a statement.

Following his death, Annabel posted a heartbreaking tribute to her partner on Instagram: ‘George, the love of my life, my soulmate.

‘The perfect father of our beautiful son. You complete me. You were my world and I know we were yours too.

‘You’re here with me with Brody’s smile, giggle and infectious personality. My world will never be the same, but I will find a way for Brody. I promise. I love you forever and always. G. Your Neen. X.’

Baldock’s partner reportedly tried to contact him for several hours without a response before contacting the owner of his villa in Glyfada, a southern suburb of Athens.

After searching the suburban property, they found Baldock in the communal pool and called emergency services.

According to footage seen by the response unit, he was reportedly in the water for several hours before he was found.

His family also released a statement saying: ‘George, you were a very special father, fiancée, son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate and person.

‘Your enthusiasm and infectious personality brought great love to those lucky enough to know you and to those who admired you from the stands.

‘We will cherish the special memories we have about you forever, and you will continue to live with your beautiful son.

‘You were supposed to fly home today to celebrate your first birthday together but instead we mourn your loss.

‘As a family it was incredibly moving, but equally difficult to read the many tributes written by those who knew George and those whose lives he touched.’
