Cricket Australia issued instructions to the media throughout the series that teams would not be available for interviews while transiting through airports and that all footage must be shot from a respectful distance.

In Seven’s report, journalist Tom Wilson said cameraman Nick Carrigan was “within his rights to film” and “respected the unwritten rules of not getting too close”.

A spokesman for Seven said: “There was an incident at Brisbane Airport involving a 7NEWS camera operator and a member of the England cricket team’s travel team.

“While performing routine filming in a public area, the cameraman was physically confronted despite acting respectfully and professionally.

“The safety and well-being of our staff is paramount. This matter is being taken seriously and is currently being managed through the appropriate channels.”

England did not comment but Seven are understood to have discussed the matter with the touring team.

Cricket Australia also declined to comment.

The episode comes as England end their break in Noosa and prepare to return to training ahead of the crucial third Test on Sunday.

Trailing 2-0 after defeat in the first two Tests, England must win at the Adelaide Oval to keep their hopes of regaining the Ashes alive.
