Platner holds 7 point lead over Collins in new Maine Senate poll

Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner leads Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) by 7 points in the race for the seat, according to a new poll.

inside Pan Atlantic Research survey48 percent of likely voters said they supported Platner in a hypothetical matchup, while 41 percent said they supported Collins. 11 percent were undecided.

When looked at by gender, 53 percent of women support Platner and 34 percent support Collins. Meanwhile, men surveyed said they supported Collins over Platner, with 47 percent supporting her incumbent rival and 44 percent supporting her potential rival.

The Democratic Party establishment was shaken when Platner’s rival in the primary, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, suspended her Senate campaign in late April because polls showed her trailing her Democrat rival badly. The state’s Democratic primary is June 9.

Platner’s ascension comes at a time of heated debate over the future of the party and the spotlight of outsiders on the left, such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D), whose own race garnered significant national attention last year.

But Platner has also faced controversy in recent months over controversial social media posts he made years before his Senate candidacy and reports that he had a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol that he later said he had covered up.

The Pan Atlantic Research poll took place May 8-18 and had 827 likely voters and a margin of error of 3.7 percent.
