PM Modi Arrives In Ethiopia On 2-Day State Visit To Deepen India-Africa Partnership | India News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Addis Ababa on a two-day official visit to Ethiopia upon the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, marking the second stop of his ongoing three-country tour.
The visit comes at a time when the India-Ethiopia relationship is expanding, with Ethiopia seen as an important and reliable partner for India in Africa and the Global South. Official talks during the visit are expected to give further impetus to bilateral cooperation in many important areas.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ethiopia, King Philip II. It followed his visit to Jordan between 15 and 16 December at the invitation of Abdullah bin Al Hussein. After the Prime Minister’s contacts in Addis Ababa, it is planned to go to Oman and complete his four-day tour covering three countries.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold wide-ranging talks with his Ethiopian counterpart Abiy Ahmed focusing on political participation, development partnership, trade, investment and people-to-people relations. According to the statement, both leaders are expected to reiterate their shared commitment to strengthen cooperation as partners in the Global South.
The importance of the visit was clearly evident in Addis Ababa, where extensive preparations were made ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival, including welcome banners, posters and the display of Indian flags throughout the city.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit reflects India’s continued focus on strengthening South-South cooperation and deepening its relationship with Africa.
In his farewell statement on Monday, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of Addis Ababa as the headquarters of the African Union and reminded that the African Union has been accepted as a permanent member of the group during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023. He said he was looking forward to in-depth discussions with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, interactions with the Indian diaspora and speaking at the joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament.
“I look forward to sharing my thoughts on India’s journey as the ‘Mother of Democracy’ and the value that the India-Ethiopia partnership can bring to the Global South,” the Prime Minister said.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed previously played an active role in the push for the Voice of the Global South Summit.
