PM Modi Holds Delegation-Level Talks with Seychelles President

Victoria [Seychelles]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held delegation-level talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the Government House as part of his three-day State Visit to the East African island nation.

The talks aimed to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral partnership between India and Seychelles.

The Indian delegation included External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister Vikram Misri and External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

The Seychelles delegation included Vice President Sebastien Pillay, Minister and Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Blue Economy Wallace Cosgrow, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Barry Faure and Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment Pierre Laporte, among other senior officials.

Prior to the delegation level meeting, Prime Minister Modi and President Herminie also held bilateral meetings.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister received a Guard of Honor ceremony at the State House and participated with President Herminie in the official ceremonial proceedings, reflecting the close ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Victoria on Saturday and was welcomed at the airport by President Herminie and several cabinet ministers and senior officials. The welcoming ceremony featured cultural performances, including a traditional dance from Gujarat’s Kutch region.

The Prime Minister will visit Seychelles from 27 to 29 June at the invitation of President Herminie and will attend the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations marking 50 years of Seychelles Independence as Guest of Honor on Monday.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi also visited the Seychelles National Botanical Garden and handed over the Indian-made Fast Patrol Ship. PS LESPWARAlong with six ambulances, 10 commercial vehicles and five laser-guided boats to strengthen Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol capabilities.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the initiative reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Seychelles in promoting security and cooperation, especially in the Indian Ocean Region.
