PM Modi leaves for Seychelles; to attend golden jubilee of country’s National Day

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said Seychelles is a valued maritime neighbor and a key partner in the ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’ and India’s shared commitment to the Global South.
Modi also said that he looks forward to bilateral talks aimed at further strengthening the enduring friendship.
“Together we will work to advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that he will pay an official visit from 27 to 29 June upon the invitation of Seychelles President Herminie, during which he will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the Seychelles National Day as Guest of Honour.
In his post on ‘X’ channel, he said, “I am leaving Seychelles and will attend the National Day celebrations. This year is even more special as it is the Golden Jubilee celebrations.” In the statement, Modi said this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of India-Seychelles diplomatic relations, which are “based on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and deep closeness between our peoples.”

“Building on President Herminie’s successful State visit to India in February 2026, I look forward to our discussions aimed at further strengthening our enduring friendship. Together we will work to advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region,” he said.
During the visit, Modi will have the honor of becoming the first Indian prime minister to address the Seychelles National Assembly. He said this historic opportunity reflects the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that bind the two countries together.
Modi said he also looks forward to interacting with the vibrant Indian community in Seychelles, which has nurtured the special friendship between India and Seychelles for generations and serves as a vibrant bridge between the two countries.
“I am confident that my visit will further deepen long-standing ties between our two countries, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region and advance our shared vision of a safe, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.” he said.
Officials said that two ships of the Indian Navy and a contingent from the Indian armed forces will attend the celebrations.
Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015. India and Seychelles share a long-standing partnership based on common historical, cultural and people-to-people ties.
