PM Narendra Modi hails BJP victory in West Bengal calls it vote for stability and development

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal elections, describing it as a vote for stability and development that comes as the world grapples with war in West Asia and the resulting economic challenges. He appealed to the people to end the culture of violence and vendetta prevailing in the state and assured that the new government will work hard to fulfill their desires while taking action against illegal immigrants. Modi emphasized that the mandate was “for badlaav (change), not badla (revenge)” and for a bright future, not fear. He argued that this election was unique because it was a peaceful exercise in which no innocents were killed.

Modi said that unlike previous polls in the state, which is known for violence, fear and the death of innocents, this time the voice of the people, not the gunshots, was heard.
The Prime Minister said, “This time, democracy, not fear, won. My request from all parties in Bengal is to put an end to the practices that were implemented before and caused many deaths. Let’s put an end to this violence forever. Let’s get over who voted for whom and let’s work for Bengal.”

He said that the world is bearing the burden of the West Asian crisis and India is facing this crisis with confidence. He said this was a vote for stability, trust and development in this time of war and economic difficulties.

“This is a new dawn in Bengal,” Modi said. “The seats won by the BJP are not just a number. It also indicates that fear, appeasement and violence have been eradicated. A new journey is starting in Bengal… Women will be safe, youth will get jobs and migration will end. The Ayushman Bharat plan will be flagged with a green flag in the first cabinet meeting and strict action will be taken against infiltrators.”
The Prime Minister also referred to Vande Mataram, Sri Aurobindo and Rabindranath Tagore. “BJP will fulfill Gurudev’s promises about a place where the mind is fearless and the head is held high. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he said. Referring to the recent defeat of the constitutional amendment bill, which aims to increase the number of seats in the Lok Sabha, and the delimitation bill, which will facilitate the implementation of reservations for women, Modi said that these election results show the anger of women voters against the Congress and other opposition parties.

“An important pillar of building Viksit Bharat is the power of women in India,” he said. “A few days ago, Congress and its allies blocked this momentum of women’s power. These anti-women parties prevented the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment from being passed in Parliament. That is why I said a few days ago that parties that oppose women’s reservation will have to face the anger of women. Today, my sisters and daughters punished the Congress, TMC and DMK.”

The victory in West Bengal is special for the BJP. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of the BJP, belonged to the state. Modi paid tribute to the leader and said the victory was the result of years of effort and sacrifice of party workers.

Modi also thanked the voters of Assam for electing the BJP to power for the third consecutive term.
