Police swarm Dublin city centre as man dies after incident – tram services suspended | World | News

Police swarmed a street in central Dublin following the tragic incident in which a 70-year-old man was hit by a tram.

The incident happened on Marlborough Street just after 7pm this evening and the scene has now been cordoned off. No other injuries were reported. Luas tram green line services are currently suspended. Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. They are especially attractive for people who have dashcam or camera footage to contact.

A spokesman for the force said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident on Monday 15 June 2026 in Marlborough Street, Dublin 1. Shortly after 7pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a Luas tram struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No further injuries were reported.

“The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for an autopsy. “The scene is currently being investigated and local traffic diversions are being issued.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. Road users and pedestrians who were in the Marlborough Street area at the time of the incident and have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this footage available for Gardaí inquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on (01) 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station “The investigations are ongoing.”
