KAs Sir Keir Starmer hinted at a day off for the country if the Three Lions go all the way, we ask readers whether a bank holiday would be the way to celebrate England’s first World Cup win in 60 years.

It is said that Sir Keir Starmer will prepare a bank holiday if England wins the World Cup, and this date is reportedly on Friday, July 24.

Speaking to reporters at the NATO summit, the prime minister refused to confirm anything directly.

“I don’t want to jinx it but ask again if we can get to the final,” he said after praising Monday’s win over Mexico as one of the best England performances he has ever seen.

This idea has already proven divisive. Scotland were given a bank holiday in June to celebrate their return to the men’s finals for the first time in decades; this move was approved by King Charles at the request of First Minister John Swinney.

But Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said she would “probably” not support the same for the UK, warning that “the private sector will still be working, the public sector will have a day off and you will all have to pay for it”.

England face Norway in the quarter-finals in Miami on Saturday, moving a step closer to a place in the last four and perhaps an extra day off.
