Ponnam Urges Denizens To Consider Water Harvesting Seriously

Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday urged residents to install water harvesting pits to ensure groundwater recharge and said penalties and double billing for water tankers awaited those who refused to comply. He said the previous BRS government allowed high-rise buildings without assessing whether the existing water supply infrastructure could support them.

He was speaking at a review meeting with minister Mohd Azharuddin and HMWS&SB officials to discuss drinking water supply requirements, sewage infrastructure, groundwater conservation and long-term urban water management plans.

Prabhakar accused former MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao of not creating any plan for the future water requirements of the city. “For over a decade, the BRS government has failed to bring even a single MGD water. Now KTR is playing politics again, claiming that if they return to power, they will provide water 24 hours a day.” He said the government will thoroughly examine the relevant factors before allowing high-rise buildings.
