Trump says Iran’s new leader has asked for a ceasefire – and he’s considering it if Hormuz is ‘open free and clear’

President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s new administration has requested a ceasefire from the United States.
‘Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and much smarter than his predecessors, has requested a ceasefire from the United States!’ The president posted on social media Wednesday morning.
Trump did not say who he spoke to, but it appears it may have been Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
Pezeshkian has been serving as President of Iran since 2024, following the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash that same year.
Raisi was seen as the successor of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli attacks on February 28, the first day of the war. Khamenei’s son Mojtaba Khamenei
Trump also listed his demands for a ceasefire and said this could only happen after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
‘We will evaluate the Strait of Hormuz when it is open, free and clear. By then we will return Iran to oblivion, or as they say, back to the Stone Age!!!’
The ceasefire announcement came 12 hours before Trump is due to give a televised speech about the ongoing war at 9 p.m. ET.

As the war enters its second month and global markets remain in turmoil due to the conflict, Brent crude oil prices are hovering around $100 as of Wednesday morning.
According to AAA, the national average price of a regular gallon of gas stands at $4.06 as of Wednesday morning.
