Premier League relegation fight: Two down, one to go – who will go down with Burnley & Wolves?

Every year when the fixtures are announced you hear the familiar refrain of “it doesn’t matter, you play everyone twice”.

But there is no doubt that when you face a particular team you can make a big difference over the course of a 10-month campaign.

With five games remaining, Spurs will surely feel that their encounter, at least on paper, gives them a chance of survival.

Next up is a trip to Wolves, whose relegation to the Championship is confirmed on Monday.

The home game against Leeds on May 11 is another that Tottenham will see as an opportunity, especially if Farke’s team has secured safety by then.

Even a difficult-looking game chasing Aston Villa in the Champions League on May 3 comes at a good time for Spurs, who are in between two legs of the Europa League semi-final for Unai Emery’s men.

Visiting rivals Chelsea before hosting Everton on the final day is not an easy way to finish the job, given both teams are fighting for a place in Europe.

But given how tight things are, it’s something all relegation candidates have to deal with.

West Ham host Everton ahead of an away game at Brentford on Saturday – and things get even tougher with title-chasing Arsenal at the London Stadium on 10 May.

Despite Newcastle having had a disappointing season, an away game at St James’ Park on the penultimate weekend is a no-brainer and a home game against Leeds on the final day could see plenty of action.

Forest face arguably their toughest last five with away games against Chelsea and Manchester United in May; The first will be played just three days before the second leg of the Reds’ Europa League semi-final against Villa.

Final-day home games against Newcastle and Bournemouth could be crucial, but a result at Sunderland on Friday could help ease the stress for Vitor Pereira’s side ahead of the rest of the competition.
