Prince Edward’s ‘love letters’ behind new bombshell memoir written by ex-girlfriend | Royal | News

A new royal book about Prince Edward and his on-and-off five-year relationship with West End star Ruthie Henshall is predicted to cause further concern among Palace staff and the wider Royal Family, according to reports. Henshall’s new book, The Showgirl and the Prince, to be published in July, promises to reveal “the joy of a bittersweet first love” between the late Queen’s youngest son and the famous actress.
Edward dated Hendall on and off between 1988 and 1993, just before he met Sophie Rhys-Jones, the then Duchess of Edinburgh. According to Hensall, the prince’s recently discovered love letters were what inspired her to write her memoirs. From the book’s secret beginnings to Buckingham Palace and Queen Elizabeth II. He claims he will document their love, right down to visits to Windsor for tea with Elizabeth.
According to Telegramthe book’s publication “is likely to cause concern among courtiers and the wider Royal Family as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains reeling following his arrest”.
It is not known whether the royal family was given a preview of the book.
The five-time Olivier Award nominee told the newspaper he was inspired to write the book after finding boxes full of memorabilia while clearing out his garage five years ago.
She said: “I found old diaries that I had started writing in the 1980s and then I found all my letters from Prince Edward and I realized how precious this time in my life was.
“I was on the West End stage, which had been my dream since girlhood, and shared my love with a man few people knew. If this were anyone else’s story, I’d think they were making it up. So here it is – a behind-the-scenes look at the wild life in musical theatre, and a look at what happens next when a showgirl falls in love with a prince.”

Henshall said she fell in love with Edward because he was “kind and thoughtful” and that she was “unlike anyone she’d ever dated before.”
The actress is thought to be on “good terms” with Prince Edward and his wife.
He said he was really in love with her [Prince Edward] and added of the royal family: “I have nothing but nice things to say about them all. The Queen in particular was lovely. Here I was, dating this chorus girl son – this must have been her worst nightmare!”
