Congestion on the southbound M6 has been downgraded to ‘minor’ by National Highways as traffic eases.

Delays at junction 24 had decreased to 10 minutes, but the institution has now removed this warning to drivers.

Instead, a traffic congestion warning is in effect on the southbound exit slip road at junction 23.

“Normal traffic conditions are expected between 09.45 and 10.00,” it said.

After the accident, there was heavy traffic on the highway.

The incident, in which three of the four lanes were closed, was later cleared by opening all lanes.
