Prince Harry reveals the one thing he loves most about being British | Royal | News

Prince Harry has been living in the United States since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, but even across the pond, the prince still has a great love for his country. Harry says there is “banter” in pubs and sports grounds and that a spirit of good-natured “self-deprecation” is one of the best things about UK culture.

Last November, Harry wrote a reflection on his country in an essay published ahead of the Remembrance events. The article explored what it means to be British, and the prince highlighted some of his favorite aspects of life as a Brit. He wrote: “The jokes of the mess, the clubhouse, the bar, the stands – as ridiculous as it sounds, these are the things that make us British. I make no apologies for it. I love it.”

Regarding his life in the US, the prince also revealed what is the “most American” thing he is doing right now.

Speaking about his experience with US culture in a podcast, host Hasan Minhaj asked him: “What’s the most American thing you’re doing right now?” To which Harry replied: “Surfing.”

Harry, a former soldier who served two front-line tours in Afghanistan, described the privilege of serving alongside men and women from across the UK in his Remembrance Day essay.

He urged people to remember “not just the fallen, but the living” who bore the “weight of war” and urged them to knock on veterans’ doors and “join them for a cup of coffee” and hear their stories and “remind them that their service still matters.”

Harry also referenced the Ukrainian people.

Writing about the “resilience” and “fierce determination” of the Ukrainians he met while visiting the war-torn country, Harry adds: “There is a similar spirit of stoic self-deprecation and humor in the Ukrainians, and I recognize it in us Brits more than anyone else.

“Although I now live in the United States, the country I proudly served and fought for is and always will be Britain.”
