Suspected ‘parcel bomb’ explodes in Monaco, critically injuring 2: reports

Police in Monaco and France are reportedly searching for a man suspected of detonating a makeshift explosive device that injured several people, two critically, on Monday night.
The explosion occurred near the entrance of a residential building in central Monaco shortly before 21:00 local time. According to Reuters, based on French newspaper Le Figaro, surveillance videos show a man leaving his backpack at the scene just before the explosion.
Monaco State Minister Christophe Mirmand told BFM TV that two of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

“No incident of this nature has ever occurred in the principality before,” Mirmand told the press.
French emergency teams were dispatched to the scene. According to the French Ministry of Internal Affairs, authorities in France and Monaco launched a joint operation to find the suspect.

BFM TV, citing the Monaco prosecutor’s office, described the device as a “packet bomb”.
Eric Ciotti, mayor of Nice, France, condemned the incident in a post on X.
“The attack that took place this evening is a tragedy that has struck Monaco. Thoughts to the victims, their families and the people of Monaco. Full support has been mobilized for the security forces and emergency services,” Ciotti said. he wrote.

Alexandra Masson, the mayor of nearby Menton, expressed her support for Monaco and said her thoughts were with the victims and their families.
“I offer my full support to the Principality of Monaco during its ordeal. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and loved ones. I offer my deepest gratitude,” Masson said. he wrote.
