Prince Harry’s ‘regret’ over Meghan Markle’s first meeting with Queen | Royal | News

Prince Harry married his wife Meghan Markle to her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. When he introduced her to Elizabeth, he explained his great “regret”. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex started dating in 2016, then got engaged in 2017 and married the following year.

In 2023, Harry published his explosive memoir Spare, in which he recounted various moments of his life. One of those moments was at the Royal Lodge in Windsor in 2016, when he had to introduce his then-girlfriend to the monarch.

The Duke explained that although the general meeting was “enjoyable”, it was something he and his wife inevitably regretted.

In his book he wrote: “There was a man [a friend of Sarah Ferguson’s] I was standing on Grandma’s other side and thought: Bogey at twelve o’clock.

“Meg looked at me for some clue to her identity, but I couldn’t help it; I’d never seen her before.”

He later added: “[Princess Eugenie] He whispered in my ear that he was a friend of his mother. Ok. I looked at him sternly, ‘Great. Congratulations for being there for one of the most important moments of my life.”

Harry later revealed that he and his wife may have dressed too casually for the occasion.

The prince wrote: “Grandma was dressed for church: a brightly colored dress and a matching hat.

“I don’t remember the colour, I wish I could, but it was bright. Fancy. I could see Meg was regretting her jeans and black sweater.

“I was regretting my tattered trousers, too. We hadn’t made any plans, and I wanted to tell my grandmother, but she was too busy asking questions about Meg’s visit.”

Another revelation about the meeting was that the late Queen asked Meghan for her opinion. Donald TrumpHe was the first person to become the President of the United States at that time.

He wrote: “Meg thought politics was a game that couldn’t be won, so she changed the subject to Canada.”
