In a pre-recorded chat a few days after England’s first World Cup match against Croatia, Travis’ brother Jason Kelce, who co-hosts the New Heights podcast, asked William: “What do you think about a successful World Cup for England?”

“I’m thinking of winning,” the future king replied, and when asked if he would “go across the pond” if England made it all the way, he said: “Absolutely. If we get to the final.”

England took a huge step towards reaching the final of the competition with their century win; this was seen by many as one of the greatest tests the three lions could ever face.

Before losing to England, host Mexico had lost only two of the 89 official matches it played at the Estadio Azteca, located 2,200 meters above sea level.

The drama began early on Sunday evening UK time when thunderstorms predicted around the Azteca stadium forced kick-off to be postponed an hour to 2am due to the risk of lightning strikes.

Outside the pitch after the match, 62-year-old England fan Stuart Pearce described the matches as “one of the best matches ever”.

He said: “When the Mexicans came out everything was exciting, it was a great atmosphere, all the Mexicans were really friendly.

“We haven’t had even the slightest problem; the Mexicans are so friendly they even bought us train tickets today.”
