Sir Keir Starmer is facing a nightmare scenario as one of his main Labor rivals has put forward a “credible plan” to return to Westminster “within a matter of weeks”. That’s according to allies of Andy Burnham, who have tipped the Mayor of Greater Manchester to use the by-election battle to push a new agenda for the government.
Mr Burnham, whose candidacy was controversially blocked by Labour’s ruling body in the Gorton and Denton elections in February, has identified a number of seats that MPs would be prepared to leave for his leadership bid.
