Project ASTRAM wins SKOCH Gold Award-2025

Vijayawada: The ASTRAM (Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management) Project, a citizen-centric traffic management initiative conceived by NTR district police commissioner SV Rajashekhara Babu, won the SKOCH 2025 Award in the Gold category under Police and Security and was nationally recognized for its excellence in governance and public service delivery.

The award was received by DCP (traffic) Shaik Shireen Begum, ACP (Special Branch) Bhanu Prakash Reddy and ASTRAM technical team members at the SKOCH award ceremony held in Delhi on Saturday.
Launched in October 2024 and run from the Police Command and Control Center, the ASRAM Project aims to make movement of people faster, safer and smoother in Vijayawada. The initiative has delivered measurable improvements in the city’s traffic management in a short period of time.
Leveraging artificial intelligence, real-time field intelligence and advanced simulations, the project transformed traffic management from a reactive system to a proactive system. As a result, traffic congestion has decreased by 50 percent, monthly congestion duration by over 70 percent, and road accidents by nearly 30 percent.
The initiative also significantly reduced the waiting time for the Green Channel from 15-20 minutes to one to two minutes and allowed accident-prone areas to be identified. Proactive mapping of potholes and flooded areas, as well as predictive traffic planning for peak hours, festivals and major public events, have further improved road safety and traffic efficiency.
